How to Protect Your Hearing

6 Indicators That It’s Time For a Hearing Test

Follow these tips to adjust your lifestyle in a way that protects your hearing.

In most cases, hearing loss is irreversible, so prevention is the best way to protect your hearing health. The reason why hearing loss is so common is because many people don’t realize the hazards that they expose their ears to every day. But, with the right knowledge, you can make sure that you are taking good care of your ears. Follow these tips to adjust your lifestyle in a way that protects your hearing.

Earplugs

Despite some skepticism, because of the way hearing works, earplugs are a big help. Hearing loss is caused when the cilia in the ears receive too much pressure due to loud noises. But with earplugs, there is a layer of insulation against these loud noises. You can easily pick out a comfortable earplug option for you because they come in a wide variety.

Volume

There are many things that can hurt your hearing without you realizing, simply because of volume. Every day, people watch TV and listen to music at unhealthy volume levels. If you can hear your TV in another room or something through your headphones without having them on, then the volume is too loud. The general recommendation is that your volume should not exceed fifty to seventy-five percent, depending on the device.

Recovery

Noise isn’t the only thing that can have an effect on hearing health. If your ears experience extreme environmental changes, like temperature changes or high moisture, then it can lead to unhealthy circumstances. Swimmer’s ear is an example, which is ear infections from excess water. By keeping recovery time in mind, you can take better care of your hearing health. For example, make sure that you wear earmuffs in cold weather, and if you get wet, dry your ears thoroughly. Even stress can hurt your hearing health, so it’s important to give yourself time to relax.
